KAELOU - A « HUMAN » HERO |
 |
Kaelou is a young froggy. He has a very large tongue that he is very clever at manipulating. He has unbound optimism that makes him think of the great Walt Disney heroes who always address children in an optimistic manner.
Most of the time, Kaelou has a smile on his face and is in good spirits. He wants all others who share his bowl to be happy also. So, he invites them to share such simple pleasures as getting carried away over a beautiful flower or enjoying a delightful snack or be happy with his calm eyes and good feelings. |
 |
Yet, Kaelou has a big weakness. When he gets very excited that something or someone opposes him he gets beyond himself. His eyes get bloodshot and his bright-green skin turns a deeper hue and gets all covered in pimples ... In short, he turns into an ugly toad.
His personality then changes. He can become wicked, unjust, and tyrannical.
He then lets the « dictatorship of happiness rule » despite the absurd way things look. In the name of happiness for all, he is ready to let the likes of him suffer the worst punishments. No doubt, when he is in this mood, everybody fears him and tries to control him. If in the end he has calmed down, he becomes the little frog again, gentle, naive and slightly megalomaniac. |

THE CAT - A DEVIL IN PARADISE |
 |
The Cat is the disturbing devil in the series. He always acts against Kaelou because he thinks of him as being too much of a kind. Close to reality and the facts of everyday life, the Cat tries with every means at his disposal to prove to others that life is not as fairy-like as Kaelou wants to make people believe it is. He persuades them that if Kaelou continues to want a nice animation design the spectators turn away from the series and the series will be stopped. And what's going to happen when the series is stopped ...
The Cat can't stand the niceties and good feelings of Kaelou. That angers him! He always has a sense of wanting to persuade, an infinite wickedness, an unparalleled duplicity. He is the king of liars, the emperor of rattlesnakes ... He also has enormous shrewdness and remarkable subtlety when under pursuit.
The Cat always tries to convince others to have a more « rock and roll » type attitude and coaches them to make them ignoble by persuading them that the series is in bad taste ...
As Kaelou's only fault is his tendency to have fits of anger, the Cat takes great delight in driving him to the maximum pitch of excitement that turns him into a miserable toad. As a matter of fact, Kaelou, in the eyes of the Cat, is quite odd when he exerts his reign of tyranny. To get top viewing ratings he does not mind humiliating people or make martyrs of them.
The Cat knows that this contributes to the success of the series. |

Other |
 |
Other characters in the series include the Tarsier (a type of small primate), who is the archetypical tortured intellectual. He perches high atop a tree all day, and his language is correspondingly elevated - sometimes to the point where others can't figure out what he's saying - as he ceaselessly expounds theories about life and the universe.
And then there's a stuffed animal named Baby Duck. He is fiercely loyal to Kaelou and is always eating his favorite food: a cup of yogurt. Baby Duck has established something called the Committee of Censure of Animated Drawings, of which he is the only member. Baby Duck's self-appointed task is to make sure everyone lives up to his politically correct ideals, and he carefully notes others' wrongdoings in his notebook, fining them or even throwing them into the jail that he has convinced Kaelou to build. |
