Our company name "QUALIA" represents that sensory experience or the peculiarfeeling of materials which could be described individually. In the other words, it means the subjective mental state we reach when we try to define the smell of a rose or the feeling of seeing the color red.
Today, as you probably all know, Japanese animation has formed it's own unique culture called MANGA while various other kinds of animation are being
produced all over the world. But I felt something was still missing in the MANGA field ... So I started trying to figure out how I could fill this void.
And as I look around the world ... I see the excellent artistic sense and beautiful design of the French. On the other hand, I see the excellent organizational and entertainment sense that Americans have.
In both of these countries, animation is taken to directions not seen in traditional Japanese ones.
From there, I came up with an idea.
- What about a Japanese production house incorporating French and American influences?
When I began the project I worried about the language barrier and the cultural differences from working in three different countries. However, I was confident those problems will resolve as we focused on our goal and set the same milestone in all three countries. That's when I was convinced we would create two animations successfully.
In September 2006, we've established "Paris Visual Unit" and "Los Angeles Visual Unit" as CFT (Cross Functional Team) the bases which share their resources and technologies.
At the Paris Visual Unit, we appointed Mr. Rémi Chapotot, a young and energetic artist from SUPINFOCOM Arles known for his distinguished artistic sense, and Mr. Jean-FranÇois Henri, who is very influential in French animation, for construction and direction. It's a team of a gifted newcomer and a seasoned veteran where Mr. Chapotot's daring ideas blend with Mr. Henri's engaging and irresistible storyline.
The result is an amazing piece of work that is captivating and easy to fall in love with.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Visual Unit formed an original team spearheaded by Mr. Robert Hanna, who's background includes numerous animations at Dream Works. They've succeeded on making a marketable work to be fitted internationally as well.
2007, here QUALIA & Co. would proudly like to introduce our two masterpieces to you for the first time.
